One of the important works of the Seljuk period

Historical touch to Cizre Great Mosque and Door Knocker...
(1071 in memory of Manzikert - Bronze Plated)

It was converted from a church to a mosque in 639 after Cizre accepted Islam. During the Abbasid period, the mosque was demolished and repaired. It was rebuilt in 1160 by Al Sencer, son of Cizre Bey Baz Shah. The minaret, which was built on a square in 1156, was repaired twice in 1945-1946 and 1971. One of the famous dragon figures built by Ebul-Iz, located at the gates of the Cizre Grand Mosque, is in the Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. A composition with two dragons and a lion's head in the middle can be seen on the bronze doorknob of the 13th century wooden door of the Cizre Great Mosque, which has a unique handicraft. The dragon has pointed ears, almond eyes and wings. Their bodies are covered with snake scales and knotted in the middle. The ends of the intertwined tails look like an eagle's head. In the middle of the dragons is a stylized lion head. The other doorknob, which has been on display at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts since 1976, was disassembled and stolen in 1969 and is now exhibited at the David Samling Museum in Copenhagen.

Size: 67.5x55 cm. Presentation in wooden box.
