Battle of Kadesh and Peace Treaty
B.C. In 1274, II. A great pitched battle was fought between Ramses and Muvattalli in front of Kadesh and resulted in the Kadesh Peace Treaty. Subject to this agreement II. Ramses emptied the places he had taken before the war, Kadesh City was left to the Hittites.
Muvattalli was killed in a rebellion in the army during the Kadesh Peace Treaty. The Treaty, which replaced it, III. Signed by Hattusili. (1269 BC) This treaty is the oldest treaty based on the principle of equality in world history. The treaty was written in Akkadian on silver plates in cuneiform. Also, next to the King's seal is the Queen's seal.
The original texts of this treaty engraved on silver plates are lost. A copy of the treaty, which was engraved on the walls of the temples in Egypt, was found as a clay tablet in Boğazköy (Boğazkale) excavations and is exhibited in the Istanbul Archeology Museum.
