Matrakçı Nasuh: Turkish miniaturist; He is a versatile scholar who has also written books on mathematics and history. Birth date and place is unknown. Although Katip Çelebi gives the date of his death as 1533, today it has become clear that this is not true. It is suggested in various sources that he may have died after 1547, 1551, 1553. Is almost no information on his life. There are unconfirmed clues that he was born near Sarajevo and that his grandfather was a devshirme.

He studied in Enderun. Being called Matrakçı or Matrakî is due to the fact that he is very skilled in the game of " Matrak", which is known to be a war game similar to fencing, played with sticks resembling a lobster, and perhaps the inventor of this game. Nasuh was also a very skilled musketeer. For this reason, it was also known as Silahî. He also had a certificate given by Suleiman I (Kanuni) in 1530 to be recognized as "master" and "chief" in the Ottoman country due to his mastery in various weapon and spear games. He even wrote a guidebook called Tuhfetü'l-Guzât, describing how to use various weapons and fighting methods.

Nasuh was an important scientist, especially in the fields of geometry and mathematics. He prepared rulers showing the length measurements and led those who came after him in this regard. He wrote two books on mathematics, Cemâlü'l-Küttâb and Kemalü'l-Hisâb and Umdetü'l-Hisâb, during the reign of Selim I (Yavuz) and dedicated them to the sultan. The last of these works was used as a mathematician's handbook for many years.
